Eher Container als Konstrukt: Zum deutschsprachigen Raum in Deutsch als Fremdsprache

Abstract

Dieser Beitrag befasst sich mit der Frage nach einem Spatial Turn im Fach Deutsch als Fremdsprache (DaF). Zuerst werden raumtheoretische Grundlagen resümiert. Danach wird der Umgang mit (dem deutschsprachigen) Raum im Bereich DaF beleuchtet und es werden zehn DaF-Lehrwerke auf Anfangs- und Mittelstufe explorativ analysiert. Darin findet Raum systematisch handlungsorientiert Eingang, zumeist als Wohn- und Lebensort oder Ausflugs- und Urlaubsziel. Von Ausnahmen abgesehen, werden Raumkonzepte dabei als objektiv existierende Gegebenheiten vermittelt, deren Konstruktionscharakter ebenso wenig kritisch reflektiert wird wie das tradierte positive Bild des deutschsprachigen Raums als dezidiert (er-)lebenswertem Ort.

This paper addresses the question of a spatial turn in German as a Foreign Language (GFL). After summarizing the theoretical background, the text looks at the concept of a German-speaking area in GFL and reports on an explorative analysis of ten GFL course books at beginning and low intermediate level, which include space systematically in an action-oriented way, mostly as places to live and as a destination for trips and holidays. With few exceptions, spatial concepts are taught as objectively existing facts, whose nature as constructs is put into question as little as is the positive picture of the German-speaking area as a place worth living and/or experiencing.
